Archery Programs
Our primary charter is to foster, expand, promote, and perpetuate Archery….
To promote and perpetuate archery, San Francisco Archers (SFA) offers two distinct archery programs for any one interested in starting or improving their archery skills.
- Archery Outreach — a one-time group class that introduces you to the basics of archery.
- Junior & Adult Development Program — a multiple-week archery program geared towards the individual archer.
Read the brief summaries below about each program below.
Currently, we do not offer private instruction for individuals, but we do offer limited private events, such as corporate outings. See our FAQ for more information.
IMPORTANT: Our Archery Programs are cancelled until further notice due to Covid-19. Check the calendar for dates & times our programs will resume. Existing JOAD students, please contact the JOAD coaching staff for more information.
Archery Outreach Program
The SF Archers Outreach Program teaches beginning students in a group setting. It usually occurs on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from February to November (subject to other club hosted events and instructor availability). The Outreach Program does NOT specialize in private one-on-one instruction. There is a suggested donation to participate. Everyone is welcome.
Our instructors are volunteer club members who are seasoned archers. They donate their time and knowledge to promote archery as part of our charter. The club provides all the equipment necessary for your instruction.

Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) & the Adult Archery Achievement Program (AAA) Program
The JOAD/AAA program is a USA Archery-sanctioned curriculum that provides structured archery courses in a group & individual setting. Unlike Outreach, this program instructs students over a period of time. We provide instruction in both traditional and compound archery for students of all age levels. Our instructors are certified NTS coaches (Level I, II, and III).
We match our staff to the skills of every archer to ensure the correct level of instruction for each student. Our goal is to instruct archery with a structured, fun, and positive approach.
These classes will be on Saturdays of the month, with exception of any scheduled tournaments or range maintenance days. Interested applicants must meet with the instructors prior to starting this program. There is a fee for this program.
